Many writers enter this phase of their publishing careers with little knowledge of the publishing process or how to set up their book for success. As a debut novelist, I found myself having to learn quickly about the difference between publicists and marketers, why it's important to make yourself an expert in your book's subject matter, and how to secure events and readings for yourself.

In this lecture with plenty of room for discussion and Q&A, we'll discuss the process that led my debut novel to publication, and the steps I took to prepare my book for that magical day — pub day. Topics discussed will include building a presence on social media, finding your book's audience, book groups, reviews, your local bookstore community, and other aspects of author outreach.
